how did you make those splatters without any top layer of paint on them?

Its a reverse splatter technique I developed - and later found a name for:

Eclaboussure:

Eclaboussure is a process in Surrealist painting where oil paints or watercolours are laid down and water or turpentine is splattered, then soaked up to reveal random splatters or dots where the media was removed. This technique gives the appearance of space and atmosphere.

..
However, with me, its acrylic - and I don't use turps, I just use water. You have to experiment with timing, to get part of it dry and part of it wet.

Layers of acrylic, that have been 'pulled away' by splattering the top layer with liquid.

Funny thing, I actually found a word for what I do recently!
Eclaboussure.

originally a surrealist technique with oils - this is a definition I found on wikipedia:

"is a process in Surrealist painting where oil paints or watercolours are laid down and water or turpentine is splattered, then soaked up to reveal random splatters or dots where the media was removed. This technique gives the appearance of space and atmosphere"
